Cut Taxes

THE WRONG DIRECTION:

“If you are a CEO in this country, you will probably pay more taxes. They won’t be prohibitively high. You’re going to be paying roughly what you paid in the ‘90s, when CEOs were doing just fine.” – Obama on CNN, 2008

“I want to eliminate the Bush tax cuts.” – Obama on CNN, 2008

"I voted against President Bush’s major tax cut packages, which have primarily benefited the wealthy and have not been effective in stimulating the economy." - Rep. David Price, Congressional Web Site, 2/13/2010

Today in America, millions of CEOs are operating small to medium sized businesses. Career politicians like David Price love to sing the praises of "small business",  when in fact they have embraced corporate welfare to those deemed “too big to fail”

On February 4, Congressman Price voted to increase the national debt limit by $1.9 trillion. He then turned right around and voted to implement PAYGO – a proposal whereby government is required to pay for all spending instead of taking out more debt. So does Rep. Price intend to spend less and leave more money in your pocket? Not at all – Obama’s budget proposes a 2010 deficit of $1.6 trillion.

Since we are required to pay for it, we will need to “pay as we go” by taxing every productive citizen in the United States. How? It is no secret that David Price will allow the Bush tax cuts to expire.

What this means for North Carolinians:

  • Tax rates in every bracket will rise. The lowest bracket will increase from 10% to 15%, effectively creating  a 50% tax hike for the lowest income Americans.
  • The marriage penalty will return
  • Child tax credits will be reduced by 50%
  • Capital gains and dividends taxes will increase.
  • Estate taxation, which has currently expired, will be reinstituted.

By opposing tax cuts, Rep. Price favors siphoning more wealth out of our communities, and preventing entrepreneurs and innovators from launching and growing the businesses and jobs we so desperately need.

TOWARDS AN OPTIMISTIC FUTURE:

As your Congressman, I will stand against bailouts and corporate welfare, and in defense of businesses that succeed by serving their customers instead of paying their lobbyists.

As your Congressman, I will renew the Bush tax cuts, oppose global taxation schemes like Cap and Trade or "carbon taxes", fight for targeted spending cuts to reduce bloated bureaucracy, and embrace a foreign policy we can afford.

Ultimately, I will work to eliminate the income tax and consider a vastly simplified system like the FairTax that does not punish jobs, income, and value creation.
